Indian Coming Out Day

Mist organizes an yearly gathering as Indian Coming Out Day, to celebrate the first victory of the struggle against Section 377. On this day, Mist celebrates it in various forms and releases colourful balloons, which symbolises our fight for Freedom to Love & Equality.

A little about why we cherish 2nd July as Indian Coming Out Day: On 2009, July 2nd, the High Court of Delhi read down Section 377, thus decriminalizing homosexuality between two consenting adults. The judgement was later overturned by the Supreme Court of India on 2013, December 11th. But we have decided NO GOING BACK after the Supreme Court of India judgement on amending Section 377 and continued fighting against the over-ruling judgement of the Supreme Court of India. While we faced an historical victory in the Supreme Court of India on the same, we at Mist will continue celebrating the first landmark date – July 2 – every year as “Indian Coming Out Day” to show the world out there that we are not going back in the closet.

Mist collaborate with various local organizations / collectives / NGOs / CBOs to organize to bring this event across multiple cities. Few of the cities that already had the event are Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai. We will thrive to bring this event to much more cities in the future.

If you wish to know more about the event and collaborate with us to bring this event to your city, please get in touch with us using the contact form in the Get in Touch page.
